About
Farhad is an Indian cinematographer based in Los Angeles. Born and raised in New Delhi, a photography class at school introduced him to the magical world of telling stories with images.
Films have played a formative role building his emotional, social, and political identity - he recognises the medium’s power to affect change one viewer at a time. Farhad believes in the affirmative power of the narrative film form, and strives to create compassion & empathy by taking the audience on a journey through the protagonist’s eyes.
Most recently, his feature ‘Take Me Home’ premiered at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival, and is set to have its international premiere at the 2026 Berlinale Film Festival. His work on the film ‘Please Hold’ was recognized with the film’s 2022 Academy Award Nomination for Best Live Action Short. ‘Green’ was awarded the Grand Jury Award for Short US Fiction at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival, and his feature film ‘Women is Losers’ premiered at SXSW film Festival 2021, earning him a nomination for the Best Cinematography award. His narrative work also includes features ‘Singing in My Sleep’, Futra Days, and ‘Khufiya’. He also enjoys the unique format of the advertising world, and has lensed commercial campaigns for brands such as Amazon, Google, & Pampers.
As an immigrant and a person of color, he brings a unique perspective to the stories he helps tell, and delights in photographing the unspoken relationships that permeate daily interactions. When he isn’t working, Farhad spends time hiking, reading, and making pottery at a community ceramics studio.
